Over the last few weeks Apple released a number of hardware updates and some new software services.

Apple released the new iPad Mini 5, iPad Air 3, and its in ear phones Airpods 2.

Apple also announced just a few days ago that the wireless charging pad Air Power has been cancelled. This means you will have to find another wireless charging pad if you want to charge your Apple devices wirelessly.

Apple also updated iOS to 12.2 and Watch OS to 5.2. This was mainly a maintenance and security update. The only major feature in iOS was being able to use Siri to handle Airplay to TVs and other devices.

I did notice some subtle changes in Voice Over. The Siri Australian Female voice seems a bit clearer now, and you can now control the voice pitch for the first time. This is available in Voice Over’s speech settings.

Apple also announced last week that they are launching 4 new services. They are:

  • TV Plus, including in-house original content
  • Arcade: an arcade streaming service
  • News Plus: a new subscription service for newspapers and magazines
  • Apple Card: a new credit card with no fees and bonuses for Apple purchases

Prices and availability for Australia are yet to be announced. My guess, based on the Apple Music Australian subscription, would be at least $11.99 AUD per month.
